Here is Bob Clark, one of our Trustees. This Tuesday, the 2nd of July, Bob will start his walk on the St. James Way! He’ll begin in Vigo, in the very west of Spain, and will walk 100 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela. There are more than 30 pilgrimage roads that lead to Santiago de Compostela. Legend has it that Saint James, the brother of Jesus, is buried there. Even if the legend is not 100% accurate, millions of pilgrims over the last 10 centuries have made this journey, praying to our Lord and Saviour. So:
- Day One: July, 2nd. Vigo to Redondela – 18.4 miles (29 km), 35,099 paces 😎 Fabulous hike in 28 degree sun, with breeze ☀️🚶Thank you for your prayers 😀
- Day Two: Just arrived in Pontevedra, after a varied, country & riverside walk of 28,570 steps, 14.8 miles – cooler today, with lots more pilgrims & local walkers 👍
- Day Three: Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis – VERY hard 😕 33,683 steps, 17.43 miles, 8 hours, in 33 degrees. Nice route, through vineyards, well marked country roads & small villages with bold fountains 👍
- Day Four: Caldas de Reis to Padrón – 30,050 steps, 15.3 miles, 7 hours – cooler today – only 30 degrees! Pleasant route through farming/vine country. Friendly locals – always a ‘Bon Camino’ & a wave 👋 Afternoon was very hard, as I’m feeling my feet pressure points, & slowed Ben’s pace 😕 Very glad to get to our alberque…
- Day Five: Padron to Teo – 30,052 steps, 17.4 miles, 7 hours – in cooler temps – 27 degrees, & pleasant cooling breeze. 😌 Small villages, good hiking surfaces & more fountains! 😅 Good conversations as we walked together, some stretches in silence, listening to the birds!
- Day Six: OK, so it was a short stroll, but still significant 🥾 (with my feet!) 11,507 steps, 5.8 miles, 3.5 hours – in sun with cool breeze & much shade 🙏The anticipation, walking through Santiago suburbs, was tangible with many pilgrims finishing their Camino. The Cathedral Plaza was very full, with nicely dressed day-trippers, sweet-smelling tourists, & us – pilgrims from around the world – tired, bedraggled, but victorious in our individual achievements 😀

Bob has successfully finished the Camino! All the donations went to the Writers Conference 2024 fund. The conference will take place this October in Montenegro. Thank you for your prayers and supporting Bob’s cause!
